Welcome to the home of JeffK photography

Here you will find info on my photography...new and old. I do mostly nature and things, but also try to catch the right expression on a family member or stranger. At some point I'll be adding some scans of film slides from my high school photo lab days. Hope you enjoy.

Macro Friday June 25

I am entering Macro Friday with a shot from our hike up Mt. Beacon. It was a hazy hot day, and I was sweating like a pig, but it was worth the view. I can't wait until fall time and crisp air to get some color shots in Autumn. But first a sad story, and maybe some of you can relate. We were editing some photos (hundreds) of a wedding we did in New Jersey. Amy had one of the cards and I had the other. I was almost done, adding some touch ups and fixing the lighting and contrast. This was last Saturday. So, I put away the card, packed up the laptop and we headed down to Lehman College where my wife was teaching a class. Later that day, I went back to editing, when I inserted the card to find only shots from the college, and no wedding! My heart sank, and I started searching disks and drives, but no wedding. OMG what happened. For the life of me, I cannot explain what happened, but I had brought home a trashed Gateway laptop and got it working with Linux. Using Gimp, I noticed that some of my macros were not reading or saving, and I switched over to my Dell laptop, but the wedding photos were not there, and neither were the macro shots I had lost. So, the Gateway laptop must have corrupted my SD card. And, to make matters worse, I did not make a backup of the card before editing. Stupid! So, in hind sight, we bought a 320Gb external, where we now copy our files before editing.

The following shots were from a hike we did up Mt. Beacon, in Beacon, NY. It is a steep climb to the top, but the views are fantastic. I was using my 70-300, but is was hazy, so the shots are not crystal. We plan on going back in October for the colors and crispness in the air.

Well it's happened. I lost some really good macro shots from one of my SD cards. The files must have been corrupted when inserting or removing card from my laptop. They were shots of water drops on green leaves after rain. Oh well. By the way, many thanks to Laura and all the other bloggers for allowing me to win last week. Thanks so much! So here are some macros for this week. And I'll do my best picking next weeks winner...

Laura's entry this week is scary! I'm not much for spiders!

Black and White Wednesday

I did black and white film exclusively in high school, and one of these days I plan on scanning the photos to post them. But in the meantime, I can set my D80 to BW, or just change the photos in PS (or Gimp, which I use mainly). Here are 2 shots for B&W Wednesday, run by Lisa at LongRoadToChina. Lisa, BTW, has some really, really nice shots. So clear and perfect. Some day I'll be as good as her and others who upload their shots. I've had my D80 since December and am still learning how to use it.

Macro Friday June 11

My macro entry for June 11. I have not really taken any new shots lately...still working on projects in house, and editing wedding shots from May 22. I am working on a series of sky shots I think are really nice, but that's just my opinion. I would love others opinions on them when they are posted.

B & W Wednesday

I have never put up a photo for B&W Wednesday, but thought I would tonight. I am really starting to like the PS and PSE functions. This particular photo has a LOMO effect and SEPIA thrown in for good measure.

Macro Entry

This is my entry for Macro Friday this week, and some others I am showing off.
