Welcome to the home of JeffK photography

Here you will find info on my photography...new and old. I do mostly nature and things, but also try to catch the right expression on a family member or stranger. At some point I'll be adding some scans of film slides from my high school photo lab days. Hope you enjoy.

February Photo Challenge

I tried to join the Photo Hunt Challenge at photohuntchallenges.com in the past, but found it hard to come up 20 or so shots to match the themes or subject. This particular challenge only requires 12 shots. There are no big prizes or showoffs, just an interesting outcome from many [people] artists who participate.

The following represents my photos for the challenge:

1a. Best from Feb 19:

1b. Best from Feb 20:

2. Black History Month

3. Canned Food:

4. EveryDay: (an obsession for me in the mornings...)

5. Hearts: (look closely at red vase...)

6. Macro:

7. Numbers:

8. Something Cozy: (our breakfast room, finally finished...)

9. Something Furry:

10. Something Red:

11. Something White:

12. View from Above:

So that wraps up my submissions for the challenge. I'll be back next week to adding more posts. Hope all of you have a good weekend. Jeff

Macro Friday Happiness

Happiness comes in many forms, and can be interpreted differently by everyone. Who can resist the Peanuts characters, Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus and the others. This globe is in my sons room. I thought I would try a macro with it. Check out other macro submissions at Blogging From Bolivia.

I must admit this is not very original. When I think I have found a great shot, I have no reason to show it. When I want to use a shot for a challenge or theme, the ideas escape me, or better yet, time slips by and I miss it.

I found a new program to process photos. I think I am going to just upload some of my latest photos to Picasa or Flickr and then link to them. I have been promising myself for months that I would do this.

Macro Friday joy

I've always enjoyed this challenge, run by Laura at Blogging from Bolivia. Check out what others have submitted:

I was trying to find a suitable subject, which in summer would have been a flower or bug, but here in the northeast of the U.S., it is cold and snowy! There are no flowers outside, and all the bugs are either frozen, or just dormant. So on the table in the dining room was a glass ball, about an inch in diameter. The reflection of the door looked nice, so I took several shots. This was the best. I wish I had used the sun for natural lighting. Maybe next time.

Buildings...

...is a new challenge run by Destiny at Twisted Fate Photography. It has the following rules:

Rules:
  • Photo must be taken by you.
  • It can be a new or archived photo.
  • Post my button or link back to me with your entry post.
  • One submission per person.
  • You must have a blog to participate.
  • Please be a follower.
  • and of course have fun!

I took a peak at some of the entries...really nice. The link is open until Friday, at which time I will comment on others' submissions. So, here is my entry for buildings:

This is a photo of the old railroad station that was part of the CNE (Central New England) railroad, which ran from Beacon (on the Hudson River) thru Millerton, and on into Springfield, Mass. (Technically this was the NDC in town). This station was at a crossing of the CNE and NYNH&H railroad. Although in utter dis-repair, there is a broad history of the station and the railroads as well, and now that the ROW is becoming a trail, more emphasis may be placed on its revival (I hope). At some point, I'll be able to walk (or bike) from Hopewell Junction, all the way to the Poughkeepsie Rail Bridge and into New Paltz.

Feel free to comment on this and other posts of mine, if you wish.
